CHINA IS THE FASTEST GROWING WORLDWIDE MARKET
As little as 10 years ago, traditional open cut methods were widely used for underground utility installation and refurbishment in mainland China. The rapid growth in population, coupled with the ageing of underground utility services, inspired engineers to study the benefits of trenchless technology. Today, China is the fastest growing worldwide market for trenchless methods, with huge potential for overseas exporters.
Trenchless technology is known to be used in more than 100 cities in China, with particular emphasis in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou. The country’s achievements are competing at world levels, undertaking some of the most ambitious projects in terms of complexity, diameter and distance. The biggest HDD installation in the world is also now in China.
As Beijing is set for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, Shanghai prepares for the World Expo in 2010 and Guangzhou for the Asian Games in the same year, these major international events along with many other major projects provide evidence that the construction boom will continue for the foreseeable future. 2010 is also China’s target to realise the first stage of the modernisation process to meet the exploding urban population.

Conference
The TRENCHLESS ASIA 2008 Conference to be held concurrently with the Exhibition will provide engineers with an opportunity to learn about the applications of various trenchless techniques, while at the same time addressing the challenges particular to the China market. Day One (
PDF 21k) will feature a mix of peer reviewed expert presentations from China and overseas featuring technology and techniques used in all aspects of planning, management, evaluation, design, new installation, repair and rehabilitation. Day Two will focus on product oriented presentations including case studies illustrating examples of projects undertaken in the region.
